Pinyon Weather
Here is a synopsis of the weather here in the Pinyon Pines area. Also a bit about the roads in different seasons.
Pinyon Pines is a very unique microclimate. It is in a vortex with cold winds coming from the west meeting the warm temperatures of the desert. Driving 15 minutes in any direction will give you something completely different weatherwise.
Temperatures in the winter hover around 50 degrees during the day and in the 30s at night however if you have a south facing home you will experience 70 to 100 degrees in the direct winter sun. We have about 3 rain/snow events and 4 to 6 wind events each year. The snow may be as deep as 4 inches and always melts off in a day or so. The chain requirements are usually from Pinyon road going west and will only last for a day unless you are in Idyllwild. The winds are southwest with around 55 mph gusts. They always sound loud because of the pines. We do not get any NE Santa Ana winds. It is always a battle for the cold winds and clouds to come over. When they do the wind stops. The most accurate weather forecast for Pinyon is the National Weather Service.
